How Has 2020 Changed What’s Important To You?

Should we cancel 2020?

I'll bet you knew my answer before you read any further. OF COURSE we shouldn't cancel 2020.

We have 6 glorious months remaining in the Year of Perfect Vision.

Giving up on 2020 is a total cop out, especially if we don't like what we're seeing.

And holy moly are we seeing some stuff.

If you're not taking a good hard look at what's important to you and what you want to do about it, well, hmmmmm... 🤔

We're in the beginning stages of a global pandemic. The worldwide economy has ground to a halt—with rent, loans, and mortgage payments coming due. There's a re-energized global movement to address systemic racism, injustice, and inequity—as unchecked police brutality continues to play out. In the US, halfway into Pride month, we're seeing huge public showings of support for LGBTQIA+ rights...and a landmark Supreme Court ruling...and a reversal of health care protections. We're having real, mainstream discussions about intersectionality and privilege and reparations.

It's...a lot.

These events are sending shockwaves that will echo for generations, fundamentally changing our "normal" in ways we hope, fear, and don't yet understand.

When I'm not curled up in a ball on the living room floor, it's amazing to think about.

So many emotions to process, so much opportunity...

We're making history.

There's a word for what happens when we're jolted out of our complacency, realize there's a gap between who we are versus who we want to be, and then close that gap: transformation.

I'm used to coaching people through this process one on one. It's very new and very meta to experience this as a society.

Everyone is collectively taking a good hard look in the mirror.

It's uncomfortable to realize we're not living our full potential, that we've gotten distracted or become complacent...and then sit with those feelings.

It's also normal to question whether your personal goals and career aspirations even matter when there are big, important issues that need attention.

While looking in the mirror can be really freakin' painful to confront, it's a beautiful thing. Because when we do the work, there's only learning, growth, and opportunity.

I want to hear from you:

How has 2020 changed you personally and your relationship with work? How have your views on money changed? How will you spend your time and money differently going forward? What's important to you now that wasn’t a few months ago? What are you questioning?

Maybe the events of 2020 have reaffirmed your commitment to changes you've already set in motion.

Or maybe you're feeling overwhelmed and unsure of yourself and your direction.

I promise whatever you're feeling is completely normal.

Comment below and tell me what's on your mind. I want to know your experience, during this unprecedented topsy-turvy time.
